New: You can cross the border from North to the South by rental car, but you need to have an additional insurance.

- Health aspects:
An international travel insurance is strongly recommended. The E111 form and the European health insurance card are not accepted in North Cyprus.
There are no specific regulations but standard immunisation like tetanus and diphtheria are recommended. For all those wishing to stay longer or for outdoor enthusiasts hepatitis A and B-immunisation is recommended.
EU-citizens may bring in and take out 400 cigarettes and 2 l of spirits. For border crossing from North to the South the EU-typical quantities may differ!

The border crossings Ledra Palace and Lokmaci in Lefkosa are for pedesterians only.
- Entry by car/motorcycle/caravan:
It is compulsory that the vehicle must have the necessary ownership and the related road tax documents. The vehicle should not enter TRNC as an export vehicle.
Your vehicle can stay in TRNC for 3 months without any problem. However, the caravan must leave TRNC after 3 months. It can later reenter for another 3 months.
Since Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus has no legal links with the other recognised countries, except Turkey, local insurance is requested. Certificate of vehicle registation, driving license and pasport will be asked at the Customs control.
- Foreign mobile phones with local SIM-card:
All imported mobile phones or tablet PCs, which got used after April 2016 with a local SIM-card for the first time, need to be registered and cleared at the customs. Otherwise the IMEI of the device will be locked after 90 days for the usage with local SIM-cards. The devices need to be registered at BTHK in Nicosia. Thereafter the accrual have to be paid at customs office. After this Turkcell or Telsim can unlock your device again.
Swimwear pertains to the beach and not to the city !
If hiking and sightseeing in remote ruins, should be worn good shoes, because of possibly occurring snakes!
